What is Macular Translocation?

There is no cure for macular degeneration. When this potentially vision-stealing disorder occurs, management through lifestyle changes is often the most effective way to slow its progress and preserve eyesight. When appropriate, our San Diego retina specialists may also recommend treatment options such as oral medications and laser therapy in combination with lifestyle changes to further protect the eye from vision loss. This is determined on a patient-by-patient basis and is something that can be discussed in greater detail during your visit to our Chula Vista or El Centro office.

Macular translocation is a type of macular degeneration treatment in which the retina is either smoothed or removed and reattached in order to reposition the macula. This surgical procedure can also be used to remove or seal leaky blood vessels when needed, though this is not always necessary. Macular translocation is for the treatment of wet macular degeneration. There is still no treatment available for the dry type of this disorder.

The macular degeneration treatment that is best for your needs can be determined during your examination at one of our San Diego area offices. To schedule your examination, please contact California Retina Associates today. Appointments can also be made with one of our San Diego retina specialists by calling (619) 425-7755 or (760) 352-7755.
