May is Healthy Vision Month!
Proudly Serving San Diego, Chula Vista, El Centro & Nearby Areas of California
According to the National Eye Institute (NEI), regular vision examinations are just as important as routine doctor visits. Healthy Vision Month sets out to make that message clear.
Established in 2003, Healthy Vision Month seeks to provide education on steps that can be taken to protect vision, as well as to encourage Americans to make eye health a top priority.
As part of Healthy Vision Month, the NEI encourages simple steps to protect eye health including:
- Eating healthy foods
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Refraining from smoking
- Wearing sunglasses when outside during the day
- Maintaining regularly scheduled vision exams
The NEI further encourages people to become familiar with their family medical history, enabling them to provide potentially vision saving information to their ophthalmologist during regularly scheduled visits.
We Support Healthy Vision Month
The eye doctors at California Retina Associates applaud the NEI in its efforts to educate people on the importance of preventative care. Regularly scheduled visits can help detect early signs of serious eye diseases and disorders including glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. By taking a proactive approach that combines simple lifestyle adjustments with professional care, you can help protect your eyes and guard your vision for years to come.
